USING ICT TO DELIVER SUBJECT SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
Numeracy

Key Stage 1

Year Group:

Reception

Topic:

One to one correspondence

Sets of objects

Background Information

For example: What previous knowledge will the pupils have? Will the activity take place in the classroom or in a computer suite?

Activity could take place in a computer suite or in a classroom

Teaching/Learning Objectives

Pupils should:

Reinforce 1 - 1 correspondence. Count reliably sets of objects 1 - 10. Recognise numerals 1 - 10.

Resources required

Prepare Template, created using drawing package presenting children with pictures of different familiar objects/animals. There will be varying numbers of each animal//object (between 1 - 10 of each). There will be labels for each animal/object with space to add a numeral, created using the tool box tool.

Methodology & Organisation

Whole class teaching session followed by children working in pairs. Begin with the children seated in front of a large screen or a reasonable size monitor being taught as a whole class. The children would then work in pairs on task, if the entire Numeracy hour is taking place in this suite, or in a group with a classroom assistant, if within the Numeracy hour in the classroom.

Introduction: Demonstrate to children how to open template. Discuss pictures, ask children how many of each object/animal there are. Discuss how to make it easier to count. Demonstrate how to select object and relocate it by clicking and dragging. Sort out the objects into sets under labels (invite children to have a go) and together count the total number in each set. Click inside the label and invite children to find the correct numeral on the keyboard and enter in. Set task.

Task: Using the pointer the children select each image in turn and by clicking and dragging put the same pictures together in a row or a set. They then count to find the number in each set. They then chick inside the label (text box), find the correct numeral on the key board and type it in. Print work.

Plenary: Gather children together and together count sets to check work.

Differentiation (Opportunities for SEN)

Greater level of support for SEN children or templates containing smaller sets (e.g. 1 - 5)

Extension opportunities

Label containing a numeral. Children create own set by inserting the correct number of an image of their choice.
