USING ICT TO DELIVER
SUBJECT SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES |
Key Stage 3
Age Group: 12 to 13 years
Topic: Energy |
The school is for secondary pupils with moderate learning difficulties. The year 7 class is just beginning the topic of "Energy". In this unit of work they will find out what different forms of energy there are and that energy can change from one form to another. The school has an ICT suite with 14
computers. Pupils have had very little experience of using
computers. |
Pupils should: Know the vocabulary for the different forms of energy Know that energy can be stored and later used in a different form Understand that energy can be
changed from one form to another |
Lesson (in the Computer suite) 1. Introduction (whole class) brainstorm pupils naming different forms of energy. 2. Demonstration (using projector) the way words can be highlighted copied and pasted. 3. Explain the activity in which pupils select the words that name the form of energy in the picture. Once selected they copy and paste into the third column of a table (see worksheet) which is stored on the computer. 4. Pupils complete the task individually with support from classroom assistants and teachers as needed. (ICT is used to reinforce and consolidate the learning
objective in this context by enabling pupils who find it difficult and
time consuming to hand write their answers.) |
Assistance from LSA/Teacher
Assistant is given to those pupils who find reading the list
difficult, also to those whose eye-to-hand co-ordination is
weak. |
When the teacher / assistant is working 1-1 with the pupil assessment of the pupil's knowledge of the forms of energy can be made. This could be recorded on an assessment sheet. |
